Beach, Harbor, and Wetlands Protection and Restoration |

The recent devastating earthquakes in Haiti and Chile and the resulting Chile tsunami underscore the need for preventative mitigation and restoration efforts for Haiti and Chile, and for the many ports, harbors, marinas, lagoons, coastal waterways, wetlands, and coral reefs along the coast of the U.S. and around the world that my be in danger of destruction - partial or total - in the event of an earthquake, tsunami, storm, or other natural stress. Charles B. Pyke, Ph.D., President, CEO, and Principal Scientist of Environmental Science & Energy, Inc., offers beach erosion control and mitigation studies, as well as protection, replenishment, and restoration services for beaches, shorelines, waterfronts, harbors, marinas, coastal waterways, and wetlands. These include, but are not limited to: [Many of the services may apply to the earthquake-damaged Port-au-Prince, Haiti and to Concepciόn and other Chile ports.]
Beach erosion control and mitigation services. Beach, shoreline, waterfront, harbor, marina, channel, and coastal waterway protection services. Beach sand replenishment services. Wetlands and other wildlife habitats: preservation, protection, and restoration services.
Generators can also
be placed in locations where there is a natural tidal current of significance,
including tidal bores and tidal waves
(a term not to be confused with tsunamis, which are not tidal in origin).
** Miniature electric generators constructed in the surf zone to respond to
the rapidly rising and falling height of the water surface resulting from
ocean waves (even Great Lakes waves) approaching the beach or cliff. The
fluctuations can be amplified by the construction of V-shaped flanks,
including a sloping surface under water, that focus the energy into a narrow
and shallow collector, containing the generator. Like with the tidal
energy generators, a fish and seaweed screen will likely be necessary around
the generator.
Multiple wave generators, separated by a few tens of meters, along a given
ocean front, should be feasible.
